The Art -
Based on a painting by Theo Hudson. Pikilyi is an important natural spring and water-hole at Mt Doreen Station in the Northern Territory. Pikilyi is the home of two rainbow serpents, a married couple. The wife was a Napananka skin group and the husband a Japangardi, a taboo relationship in the Walpri culture. The serpents are the “kirda’ traditional owners of that country.
The Artisans -
The detachable stars are lacquerware, a traditional Kashmiri handicraft, which is made from recycled paper then hand painted by artisans utilising Aboriginal artists' designs.
The paper for the cards is hand made in Jaipur (North India) from a SEDEX certified supplier. It is made using recycled cotton scraps from the garment industry. No wood or toxic chemicals are used in their production.
All products produced by Better World Arts cross cultural projects return royalties to the artists and their communities.
