The Artist -

Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) is one of Mexico's most famous artists and is widely hailed as the most important 20th Century artist of the Americas.  Her life and culture was her constant subject matter. She was married to the painter (and fellow Communist) Diego Rivera. Kahlo nearly died at the age of 18 in a traffic accident. It was during her initial convalescence that she took up painting. Despite her injuries, Kahlo remained a brilliant and charismatic character.
