Large card 120 x 170mm
Margaret Coen (1909 - 1993) was an Australian artist. She was born in Yass, NSW. Coen came to prominence in the 1930s and was primarily known as a painter of still life and flowers. In 1930 she met the successful artist Norman Lindsay who became her friend and mentor. Lindsay was nearly 30 years her senior, twice married and with children of Margaret's age. Yet in more recent years, in a biography about the artist by her daughter it was disclosed that Coen and Lindsay were also lovers. However their affair was resolved the fact is that Lindsay and Coen and indeed Coen's husband, Douglas Stewart, all remained close friends for the rest of Lindsay's long life.
