Under a cloak of stars this young sugar glider (Petaurusbreviceps) feasts on nectar from the dazzling pink gum blossom Corymbia ficifolia endemic to the southwest of Australia.
Whilst the sugar glider has a penchant for nectar, sap and tree gums they also enjoy a large range of snacks such as eggs, lizards, insects and small birds. Their scientific name means “short-headed springboard” and their wrist to ankle membrane, called the patagium allows them to glide up to 50 meters.
