Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853 -1890) was a Dutch Post Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art.  Van Gogh is considered a tragic figure—struggling against madness, in and out of mental hospitals—yet he created works of genius. Shimmering with light and color, saturated with the intensity of his vision, they resound throughout the world of art. He sold only one painting in his lifetime, but over the course of a single decade he produced more than 2,000 drawings and paintings. The four paintings featured in this set attest to his singular genius.
