About -
The eastern pygmy possum (Cercartetus nanus) is an important pollinator of the crimson bottlebrush (Melaleuca citrina also known as Callistemon citrina).
In the evening these tiny creatures feed on the nectar and pollen produced by these iconic and beloved flowering plants. They are also very fond of eucalypts and banksias and when blossoms are scarce they supplement their diets with insects, seeds and fruit.
Pygmy possums are often mistaken for mice or rats, but they are tree-dwelling marsupials with prehensile tails that help them climb and leap between trees in search of nectar and pollen-rich blossoms.
