The Artist
Jorgen Bechmann was born in Odense, Denmark. He studied furniture design from 1961-1964 and spent time in New York, where he became involved with print-making and with the “young Americans” – Warhol, Dina, Trova, Rauchenberg. In 1980 he arrived in Australia and became fascinated by the flora and fauna, history and natural wonders of this land. This inspired his ‘Modern Australian Dreamtime’ series. With his profoundly simplistic, imaginative and vibrant approach, Bechmann solidified himself as a well recognised figure in the Australian art scene.
