The Artist-

Carl Olof Larsson (1853-1919) was a Swedish painter representative of the Arts and Crafts movement. His many paintings include oils, watercolors, and frescoes. He is principally known for his watercolors of idyllic family life.

From a wintry scene of plein air painting to a game of peek-a-boo by a cozy fireplace, Carl Larsson captures the joys of his lively household with his intimate works of art. After Larsson and his family moved into their country cottage, Lilla Hyttnäs, he found artistic inspiration in visitors, relatives, and the house itself (for which his wife, artist Karin Bergöö, did much of the interior design). The idyllic image Larsson presented in his watercolors—particularly his series A Home—became widely popular, influencing Swedish art and design.
